The Kano State House of Assembly has called on Governor Abba Yusuf to provide emergency assistance to residents of Shuwaki town in Tudun Wada Local Government Area.

The appeal followed a heavy downpour that destroyed over 200 farmlands and damaged key infrastructure.

The motion was presented on Monday during plenary by the member representing Tudun Wada Constituency, Sule Shuwaki. He said the rainfall, which occurred last Thursday, led to flooding that wiped out more than 200 rice farms belonging to local farmers.

Shuwaki also reported that the flood washed away a historic bridge along the Tudun Wada-Shuwaki Road. The collapse has disrupted transportation, particularly for students and other residents who rely on the route.

The lawmaker explained that the damaged bridge has affected the socio-economic life of the community, making it difficult for people to access their farms and move freely between areas. He urged the state government to provide immediate relief materials and other support to the affected farmers and residents.

Shuwaki further called for the prompt reconstruction of the bridge and road to ease the hardship faced by people in Shuwaki and nearby communities. The motion was seconded by the member representing Gezawa Constituency, Abdullahi Kara, and was adopted by the House after deliberations.
