The Anambra State Police Command has disrupted a suspected cult-related gathering at Abagana Street, Fegge, Onitsha.

The operation followed credible intelligence received by officers of the Fegge Police Station.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the command’s spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga. He said operatives moved quickly to the location and arrested a 25-year-old man identified as Chinedu Ike, while other members of the group fled upon sighting the police.

During preliminary interrogation, the arrested suspect allegedly admitted to being a member of the Vikings Confraternity.

Police have since launched intelligence-led efforts to identify, track and arrest the fleeing suspects and determine their possible involvement in cult-related and other violent crimes in the area.

Commissioner of Police Nnanna Ama has directed that the case be transferred immediately to the Violence and Cult-Related Crimes Unit for discreet investigation and further action.

He reaffirmed that the command will continue to use intelligence-driven and proactive strategies to disrupt cult activities and prevent related violence.

The command urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide useful information that could help in identifying and apprehending the suspects still at large.
