The Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, has charged 135 newly commissioned officers of the Nigerian Navy to remain professionally prepared and committed to the responsibilities of military service.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Abbas urged the officers to uphold the highest standards of discipline, integrity and professionalism as they begin their careers in the Armed Forces.

He stressed that modern security challenges require officers who are physically fit, mentally resilient and capable of adapting to evolving operational demands.

The naval chief reminded the officers that leadership in the military goes beyond rank, noting that competence, character and dedication to duty are essential qualities for effective service.

According to him, the officers must continuously improve their skills, maintain operational readiness and remain committed to protecting Nigeria’s territorial integrity and national interests.

He also encouraged them to embrace teamwork, innovation and continuous learning in order to meet the challenges of an increasingly complex security environment. Military leaders have repeatedly emphasized that operational effectiveness depends on professionalism, readiness and the ability to respond to changing security threats.

Abbas urged the new officers to remain loyal to the Constitution and conduct themselves in a manner that reflects positively on the Nigerian Navy and the Armed Forces as a whole.

He further advised them to uphold the core values of the service, avoid actions capable of bringing the military into disrepute and remain focused on their constitutional responsibilities.

The naval chief noted that the country continues to face various security challenges, making it necessary for officers to remain prepared for deployment whenever called upon to serve.

He expressed confidence in the training received by the officers and urged them to justify the nation’s investment in their development through dedication, courage and exemplary service.
