The Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate in Benue State, Michael Aondoakaa, has called on his supporters to avoid violence despite the destruction of his campaign materials.

He made the appeal in a statement issued in jMakurdi on Saturday.

Aondoakaa, a former Attorney General of the Federation, said the call followed reports and images of campaign items being burned in some parts of the state. A viral video showed individuals pouring petrol on and setting fire to T-shirts bearing his image.

He expressed concern over the incident but stressed that no amount of provocation should lead his supporters to abandon the principles of their campaign. Aondoakaa urged them to remain calm, peaceful and law-abiding across the 23 local government areas of Benue.

The candidate advised against any form of retaliation or destruction of other people’s campaign materials. He said the strength of the movement, known as BENUE FIRST, lies in the people’s conviction and shared vision for a safer and more prosperous state, not in posters or banners.

Aondoakaa noted that while campaign materials can be destroyed, the aspirations of the people and the demand for good governance cannot be silenced. He called on supporters to choose peace over violence and to continue focusing on ideas, solutions and service.
