The divorced parents of late American actress, Hayden Panettiere reportedly disagreed over who should receive the earrings she was wearing when she died, according to a coroner’s report that has now become public. 

The dispute led authorities to hold on to her personal effects until the two sides could reach an agreement.

The report, released this week by the Greenville County Medical Examiner in South Carolina and first reported by TMZ, says a pair of stud type earrings was removed from the actress’s body during the autopsy. When officials contacted her parents, Lesley Vogel and Alan “Skip” Panettiere, one reportedly asked for the jewellery to be sent to North Carolina while the other wanted it delivered to California. The document says both parties were told the items would not be released until they agreed on where they should go. It does not say how the matter was settled.

The same report ruled Panettiere’s death accidental, citing the toxic effects of fentanyl and several other drugs. She died on August 16 at the age of 36 after being found unresponsive at a rented home in Greenville, South Carolina. The Heroes and Nashville star is survived by her 11 year old daughter, Kaya.

Panettiere’s parents divorced in 2016 after years of separation, and reports say their relationship has been strained. Her death came three years after that of her younger brother, actor Jansen Panettiere, who died in February 2023 at the age of 28. A memorial service for the actress was held in Malibu, California, over the weekend, about a month after her death, and was attended by Nashville co-stars Connie Britton and Charles Esten, among others.
