TotalEnergies and its Nigerian partner, AMNI, have approved the development of the Ima offshore gas field, with production expected to commence in 2028 and peak at 350 million cubic feet per day.

The project, located within Oil Mining Leases 112 and 117 near Bonny Island, is expected to increase gas supplies to Nigeria LNG and support the expansion of the company’s liquefaction capacity.

Once production begins, gas from the Ima field will be transported through a dedicated pipeline to Nigeria LNG, where it is expected to provide about one-third of the gas required for the company’s Train 7 expansion.

The Train 7 project is expected to increase Nigeria LNG’s liquefaction capacity from its current 22 million metric tonnes per year to 30 million metric tonnes annually.

TotalEnergies said the Ima development forms part of its wider integrated gas strategy in Nigeria.

The company added that the project would provide lower-cost gas resources to support both domestic energy requirements and LNG production.

With production targeted for 2028, the development is expected to contribute additional gas supply to Nigeria’s energy and LNG sectors.
