Enugu Governor Taps Nollywood Stars Rachael Okonkwo, Eucharia Anunobi for New Cabinet Roles
Nollywood actresses, Rachael Okonkwo and Eucharia Anunobi have been drafted into government service, after Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah named them among 101 new aides appointed to his administration.
The appointments were made public on Monday, September 21, 2026, through an official statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia.
The list of 101 aides was structured across three tiers of government office: seven Special Advisers, six Senior Special Assistants, and 88 Special Assistants, with the appointments taking immediate effect.
Rachael Okonkwo, widely recognised for her lead role in the Nkoli Nwa Nsukka film series, was named Senior Special Assistant on Film and Creative Industry Development, a role that places her at the centre of policy and support for Enugu’s growing entertainment sector. The actress hails from Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of the state, a connection that appears to have factored into her selection for a role tied so closely to her home turf.
Veteran actress, Eucharia Anunobi, who has built a career spanning more than three decades and appeared in over 90 films since rising to prominence in Nollywood in the 1990s, was appointed Special Assistant on Women Mobilisation for the Enugu-North Zone. Anunobi, also known for her work as a pastor and producer, joins the administration’s community mobilisation efforts in that capacity.
Both actresses feature on a broader list of aides that includes special advisers and assistants covering areas such as inter-party mobilisation, legal and regulatory compliance, small and medium enterprise development, community engagement, and inter-governmental affairs, reflecting the scale of Governor Mbah’s expanded support team.
