Dangote Laughs Off Shareholder Memes, Confirms Fertiliser Company IPO for 2028

President of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has reacted humorously to the wave of social media jokes from new investors in the ongoing Dangote Petroleum Refinery share offer, while confirming plans to list the group’s fertiliser business on the stock market in 2028.

Speaking during an interview at the Qatar Economic Forum, Dangote acknowledged the growing number of retail investors participating in the refinery’s public share offer and joked about online calls from shareholders demanding a board meeting.

His remarks come amid widespread social media reactions to the refinery’s public offering, which has attracted significant interest from Nigerians purchasing shares and humorously portraying themselves as company executives, board members and co-owners.

Dangote said the group is increasingly opening its businesses to a broader base of investors, noting that the strategy would allow more people to become part owners of major industrial ventures.

When asked about the future of the company’s fertiliser business, he confirmed that plans were underway to take the company public in 2028. Dangote expressed confidence in the business, describing it as one of the most significant fertiliser operations globally and indicating that a stock market listing would provide opportunities for wider public participation.

The planned fertiliser IPO follows the ongoing refinery share offer, which has generated strong interest among retail investors and is being promoted as a broad-based investment opportunity for Nigerians.

Industry observers say the move reflects the group’s strategy of expanding investor participation while raising capital to support future growth and expansion projects across its operations.

The announcement is expected to further boost interest in the Nigerian capital market as investors look ahead to another major public offering from one of Africa’s largest business groups.
