Troops of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), have foiled terrorist attacks on two Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) in Borno State, killing some attackers and recovering weapons and other equipment.

The attacks targeted FOB Gajiram in Nganzai Local Government Area and FOB Mairari in Guzamala Local Government Area on September 17, 2026.

At Gajiram, troops detected terrorists advancing towards the base with support from Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) assets of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF).

The troops took defensive positions while the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai provided close air support, forcing the terrorists to withdraw from the area into surrounding locations.

Later that night, several Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters attacked FOB Mairari but encountered resistance from troops supported by air strikes.

The military said the coordinated response contained the attack and inflicted casualties on the terrorists while the base remained under the control of the troops.

A subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of four terrorists’ bodies, AK-47 rifles, magazines, ammunition, RPG bombs and a camcorder, among other items.

Some soldiers were wounded during the engagement and were stabilised before being evacuated to a hospital for further medical treatment.

The military also said sustained operations in the area had led to the surrender of two Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad (JAS) terrorists, including a Qaid, or commander, who surrendered with weapons.
