The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Kaduna State University chapter, has suspended its strike after the state government approved the implementation of the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU agreement for the institution’s academic staff.

The suspension took effect from early Friday morning.

The decision followed a congress meeting on Thursday where members unanimously accepted the offers from the state government, the university’s Governing Council and management. The move is expected to allow academic activities to resume at the university.

According to the union, Governor Uba Sani approved the domestication of the agreement for KASU academic staff starting from October 2026. The Governing Council and management also approved the payment of nine months’ arrears covering January to September 2026.

Union leaders described the approvals as important steps toward restoring stability and improving staff welfare. They said the agreement would help retain lecturers and boost productivity at the institution.

The lecturers thanked the state government, the Governing Council and university management for handling the dispute through dialogue rather than threats. They also appealed to students to prepare for the resumption of classes as soon as possible.
