The Osun State Government has approved the creation of a Joint Security Task Force to strengthen response to security threats following recent alerts in the state.

The government also pledged to provide the necessary logistics to support the force and better protect lives and property.

The decision was taken at a State Security Council meeting convened by Governor Ademola Adeleke on Wednesday. The meeting was chaired by Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi, with the newly deployed Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zungura, and other security commanders in attendance.

Adewusi praised the security agencies for their efforts during recent challenges and urged them to remain alert to emerging threats. He conveyed the governor’s continued support for the agencies and called on traditional rulers to keep playing their part in local security oversight.

The council reassured residents that Osun remains safe but advised the public to stay vigilant, especially around churches, mosques and schools. It directed the police and other security agencies to maintain a 24-hour red alert against possible bandit and terrorist threats.

An agreement was also reached for the Ministry of Justice, the Nigeria Police and the Department of State Services to work together to ensure suspects are properly investigated and prosecuted without delay. The council further commended the new police commissioner for reforms introduced since he assumed office.
