Katsina Assembly Endorses Radda for Second Term

The Katsina State House of Assembly has declared its support for Governor Dikko Umaru Radda’s bid to secure a second term in office in the 2027 governorship election.

The Speaker, Nasir Yahaya Daura, announced the lawmakers’ position on Tuesday while receiving Governor Radda, who presented the state’s N828.64 billion 2027 Appropriation Bill before the Assembly in Katsina.

Daura also assured the governor that the lawmakers would give the budget prompt consideration and passage to facilitate the continued execution of government projects and programmes across the state.

He described the appropriation bill as particularly significant because it is the final budget of Radda’s first tenure and the last to be presented before the end of the tenure of the 8th Assembly.

The Speaker commended the relationship between the executive and legislative arms of government over the past four years, saying the cooperation had contributed to progress in areas including infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, security and human capital development.

“On behalf of Honourable Members, I appreciate Your Excellency for your support to this House. We also commend you for the developmental projects and programmes across the state,” Daura said.

He disclosed that the 8th Assembly had passed more than 50 bills, considered various motions and conducted oversight activities aimed at addressing the needs of residents.

Daura assured Radda that the lawmakers would subject the proposed 2027 budget to thorough scrutiny and work towards its passage within the shortest possible period.

The Speaker also pledged the Assembly’s support for President Bola Tinubu and other APC candidates contesting the 2027 general elections.

Reflecting on his tenure, Daura said the budget presentation marked the last occasion on which he would receive Radda as Speaker of the 8th Assembly.

He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and called on both returning and newly elected lawmakers to preserve unity and continue working with the executive in the interest of Katsina State.

Daura also prayed for divine guidance, protection and success for Radda as he seeks another term as governor.
