IGP Disburses N2.32 Billion to Families of Fallen Police Officers

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has presented welfare and insurance benefits worth N2.32 billion to families and next-of-kin of deceased police officers across the country.

The funds were distributed to 2,971 beneficiaries under various welfare schemes established to support families of officers who died while in service.

The IGP described the exercise as part of the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to the welfare of its personnel, stressing that the sacrifices made by officers who lost their lives in the line of duty would not be forgotten.

He noted that the disbursement goes beyond financial assistance, representing the Force’s responsibility to stand by the families of fallen officers and ensure they receive the support due to them.

Police authorities said the beneficiaries were drawn from different parts of the country and received payments through the Group Life Assurance, Group Personal Accident and IGP Family Welfare schemes.

The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts by the Force leadership to improve welfare packages for serving and retired personnel, as well as the families of officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the course of their duties.

The IGP reaffirmed the commitment of the police leadership to prioritising personnel welfare, expressing hope that the support would provide relief to affected families and demonstrate the institution’s appreciation for the service of the deceased officers.
