Katsina Labour Unions Open Discussions With Health Workers to Avert Planned Strike

Labour unions in Katsina State have commenced discussions with healthcare workers in an effort to prevent a planned industrial action that could disrupt medical services across the state.

The talks come amid growing concerns over a seven-day warning strike announced by the Assembly of Health Care Professionals in Katsina State, which is scheduled to begin on September 8 if outstanding grievances remain unresolved.

The health workers are demanding improvements in welfare packages, implementation of outstanding allowances and other employment-related benefits which they say have remained unresolved for years.

Labour leaders have stepped in to facilitate dialogue between the workers and the state government, with the aim of finding common ground before the planned strike date.

Stakeholders involved in the discussions expressed optimism that constructive engagement would help address the concerns raised by the healthcare professionals and prevent disruptions to healthcare services.

The proposed warning strike has generated concern because it could affect public health facilities across the state if negotiations fail to produce a breakthrough.

Health workers have maintained that their demands are legitimate and necessary for improving staff welfare, boosting morale and enhancing healthcare delivery.

The unions have urged all parties to approach the negotiations in good faith and prioritise the interests of patients who depend on public healthcare services.

Observers say the outcome of the talks will be crucial in determining whether the planned industrial action proceeds or is suspended pending further negotiations.

Both labour representatives and healthcare workers are expected to continue consultations in the coming days as efforts intensify to reach a mutually acceptable resolution before the strike deadline.
