Troops Kill Fighters, Intercept Ammunition in Zamfara, Kaduna

Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have reported killing several terrorists in Zamfara State and intercepting a large quantity of ammunition in Kaduna State.

The Joint Task Force North West said the operations took place on 2 September. In Zamfara, Sector 2 troops, acting on information about fighters moving from the Fakai area toward Kwanar Jolof and Tashar Dole in Shinkafi and Zurmi, set an ambush at Kwanar Jolof. The military said some of the men were killed and others fled.

Recovered items included an RPG launcher and bomb, a rifle, magazines, ammunition and a motorcycle.

In Kaduna, Sector 1 troops stopped a vehicle on the Saulawa–Zaria road. The Army said one passenger tried to run when asked to open a bag. He was shot dead. A search found hundreds of rounds of ammunition hidden in a bag of gari. The driver and vehicle were taken into custody.

Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja said the actions were meant to disrupt both armed groups and the people who move ammunition for them. Shinkafi and neighbouring local governments remain among the most violent parts of the North West. Official tallies of those killed are the military’s own and are rarely independently checked on the ground.
