Troops of the 120 Task Force Battalion, working alongside members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), have killed a Boko Haram insurgent and recovered weapons during an ambush operation in Lamusuri, Borno State.

The operation was launched after security personnel received intelligence about the movement of suspected terrorists along a route frequently used by insurgent elements in the area.

Acting on the information, troops positioned themselves strategically and laid an ambush along the suspected route.

During the operation, security personnel spotted a group of Boko Haram fighters moving through the area and engaged them in a gun battle.

One insurgent was killed in the exchange of fire, while others reportedly escaped with gunshot wounds.

Following the encounter, troops recovered an AK-47 rifle, three magazines, 90 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and a body pouch.

Military authorities said the success of the operation was made possible through intelligence-driven efforts and collaboration between troops and local security partners.

The operation forms part of ongoing efforts to disrupt terrorist activities, restrict insurgent movements and weaken their operational capabilities across the North-East.

Security assessments indicated that while the overall situation in the area remains relatively calm, troops continue to maintain a high level of vigilance due to the unpredictable nature of insurgent activities.

The latest success underscores the continued determination of security forces to sustain pressure on terrorist groups and deny them the freedom to operate within the region.
