The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) recovered more than N1.23 trillion and $684.48 million in 34 months, while releasing N661.32 billion and $492.37 million to beneficiaries, the commission’s Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, has disclosed.

Olukoyede made the disclosure on Monday, August 31, 2026, as the anti-graft agency released details of its activities and achievements under his leadership.

According to the EFCC, its total recoveries during the period also included £373,905.78 and €9.34 million.

Olukoyede said the value of recoveries should not be measured solely by the amounts seized, stressing that the process is only meaningful when recovered assets are ultimately returned to the public or their rightful beneficiaries.

Of the N661.32 billion released, about N325.35 billion was paid directly to individuals and corporate organisations, while N335.97 billion went to ministries, departments and agencies, the Nigeria Revenue Service, state internal revenue services and other public institutions and beneficiaries.

The EFCC chairman said approximately N397.26 billion, representing 33 per cent of the total naira recoveries, was recovered directly for the Federal Government.

The remaining N836.34 billion, representing 67 per cent, was recovered on behalf of government agencies, state revenue authorities, companies, individuals and foreign victims.

On prosecution, Olukoyede said the commission received 49,673 petitions and investigated 39,615 cases between October 2023 and July 2026.

He added that the agency filed 14,476 cases in court and secured 10,872 convictions within the same period.

Olukoyede further said the EFCC’s analysis of petitions and cases showed changing patterns in financial crimes, with 46,288 offences recorded across nine major crime categories between 2024 and 2026.

According to him, advance-fee fraud and cybercrime accounted for nearly two-thirds of the offences recorded, while procurement fraud, bank fraud and economic-governance-related offences also recorded notable increases.

The EFCC also reported significant recoveries linked to tax and public revenue enforcement. About N288.1 billion was recovered in federal and state taxes, comprising approximately N173.2 billion in federal tax recoveries and N114.9 billion recovered for State Internal Revenue Services.

The commission also recorded about N257.2 billion in recoveries for federal ministries, departments and agencies, which Olukoyede said demonstrated the role of anti-corruption enforcement in strengthening government revenue.

The latest figures come after the EFCC reported in October 2025 that it had recovered N364.5 billion and $326.5 million within a year and secured 4,111 convictions.

In October 2024, the commission had also announced the recovery of N248 billion, $105.4 million and other foreign currencies between October 18, 2023, and October 18, 2024.
