INEC Releases Final List of Candidates for 2027 Governorship Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has unveiled the final list of candidates cleared to participate in the upcoming 2027 governorship election.

The publication of the list marks a significant stage in the electoral process, officially confirming the contenders who will battle for their state’s top political office.

Candidates from major political parties, including the All Progressives Congress, Peoples Democratic Party, Labour Party and several other parties, made the final roster released by the electoral body.

INEC stated that the publication was carried out in accordance with the Electoral Act and follows the conclusion of party primaries and candidate nomination processes.

The commission urged political parties and candidates to conduct their campaigns peacefully and in line with established electoral guidelines.

Political observers expect an intense contest as the candidates begin efforts to mobilise support across the state ahead of the election.

Key campaign issues are likely to revolve around security, infrastructure development, healthcare, education, job creation and economic growth.

The election is expected to attract significant public attention as voters assess the programmes and promises of the various candidates.

INEC reaffirmed its commitment to conducting a transparent, credible and peaceful election while encouraging citizens to actively participate in the democratic process.

With the release of the final candidate list, the race for the governorship seat has officially entered a new phase as political parties intensify preparations for the polls.
