Two Nigerian men have been charged in connection with the alleged murder of UK-based Nigerian, Taiwo Ekerin, following a violent assault in London in May 2026.

The suspects, identified as 32-year-old Maxwell Oguanaya and 34-year-old Chibueze Chukwurah, were arrested in Glasgow a day after the Metropolitan Police commenced a murder investigation into Ekerin’s death.

Ekerin reportedly sustained a severe head injury during an assault outside the Alpha Lounge nightclub on Lewisham High Street and later died from his injuries.

The investigation, conducted under Operation Doughwall, led to the arrest and subsequent charging of the two men.

Founder of the Nigerians in the UK Community, Benjamin Kuti, popularly known as Oluomo of Derby, disclosed the development in a statement, saying the suspects had been remanded in custody and were expected to stand trial.

Kuti said the death had deeply affected the Nigerian community in the United Kingdom, adding that the suspects could face life imprisonment if convicted of murder under UK law.

He, however, stressed that the charges did not amount to a conviction, noting that both men remained innocent until proven guilty by a court.
