For the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Ideological Group (BAT-IG), the latest intervention by First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu in support of families of fallen security personnel is more than another government programme. It is a powerful affirmation of the importance of identifying people-centred needs and consistently putting them before government.

Earlier this year, BAT-IG began pushing the welfare and educational needs of children of fallen, wounded and retired security personnel. On March 3, 2026, the Group engaged the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) on a proposal seeking structured educational support for children of security personnel who had paid the ultimate price or sustained injuries in service.

The advocacy formed part of BAT-IG’s wider commitment to ensuring that the sacrifices of frontline officers do not end with the loss or injury of the personnel themselves, but that their families are also supported.

That commitment has now found a significant expression in the latest intervention of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), led by the First Lady.

On Thursday, August 27, 2026, Senator Oluremi Tinubu announced ₦819 million in financial support for 1,638 widows of fallen military and police personnel, with each beneficiary receiving ₦500,000 to establish or recapitalise a business. Of the amount, ₦657.5 million is for 1,315 military widows, while ₦161.5 million is for 323 police widows.

The intervention covers families of personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty from 2023 to date. The First Lady also recalled that RHI had, in November 2023, provided ₦250,000 each to 1,420 widows and orphans of fallen heroes.

For BAT-IG, this is the kind of leadership that turns concern into impact, an undeniable proof of a listening and concerned leadership.

The Group therefore commends Senator Oluremi Tinubu for standing with these families and for demonstrating that the Renewed Hope Agenda is not only about policies and institutions, but also about restoring dignity, opportunity and hope to Nigerians who have fallen on hard times.

BAT-IG takes particular pride in its own role as an organisation that identifies gaps at the grassroots and pushes practical solutions through relevant government institutions. The Group has consistently maintained that political support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu must go beyond slogans: it must involve finding problems, developing solutions and helping connect those solutions to the people who need them.

That philosophy has seen BAT-IG advocate interventions across education, healthcare, electricity, employment, roads, water and other critical sectors, with more than 70 people-oriented interventions and development proposals now pushed across communities, streets, wards, Local Government Areas and states.

The Group’s engagement with UBEC on the educational welfare of children of fallen and wounded security personnel is therefore part of that larger record.
