Chairman of Chrome Group of Companies and the Sir Emeka Offor Foundation (SEOF), Chief Sir Emeka Offor, has called for stronger measures to protect vulnerable people, particularly widows, from abuse and exploitation.

Offor made the call in Oraifite, Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State, during the foundation’s quarterly rice distribution programme for widows in the community.

He urged the government to impose tougher sanctions on individuals who abuse, intimidate or dispossess vulnerable people of their property.

Offor said the welfare of widows remained one of the foundation’s major priorities, noting that beneficiaries in Oraifite receive rice from the foundation four times annually.

He disclosed that the foundation had also built houses for widows and would provide an additional 20 bungalows this year.

According to him, the foundation currently supports about 3,000 widows in the community. He explained that because he was unable to attend the second-quarter distribution in May, beneficiaries would receive two bags of rice each during the third-quarter exercise to make up for the missed distribution.

Offor said the initiative was aimed at improving the welfare of vulnerable members of society and urged the Anambra State Government to strengthen legal protection for widows and other vulnerable groups.

The Chairman of SEOF, Tony Obi, also called for prayers for Offor, describing his commitment to supporting widows as a source of personal fulfilment.

Obi said Offor had found greater satisfaction in supporting vulnerable women than in previously sponsoring politicians for public office.

The President-General of Ozubulu community, Vin Dike, commended the foundation for focusing its interventions on vulnerable groups, particularly widows.

Dike said Offor had made significant contributions to Oraifite through road construction, educational scholarships, housing for widows, medical assistance and other welfare initiatives.

He prayed for continued strength and success for Offor and the foundation in sustaining its humanitarian interventions.
