FG Declares Tuesday Public Holiday for Eid ul Mawlid
The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, August 25, 2026, a public holiday to commemorate Eid ul Mawlid, marking the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad.
The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced the holiday on Friday in a statement signed electronically by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Magdalene Ajani.
The minister urged Nigerians to use the occasion to reflect on the values associated with the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad, particularly compassion, humility and service to humanity.
Tunji-Ojo said these values remained important to Nigeria’s efforts to promote peaceful coexistence and strengthen national unity.
He also called on citizens to pray for peace, stability and greater cohesion across the country, noting that building a united nation was a collective responsibility.
The minister urged Nigerians to celebrate the occasion responsibly and with mutual respect, while extending his goodwill to Muslims in Nigeria and across the diaspora.
He further reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property and sustaining peace nationwide.
