Kano Completes 867 Projects Under Abba Yusuf Administration
The Kano State Government says it has completed 867 out of 1,557 projects initiated by Governor Abba Yusuf’s administration since it assumed office.
The Commissioner for Public Procurement, Projects Monitoring and Evaluation, Nura Maaji, disclosed this on Sunday at a media briefing in Kano.
Maaji said the completed projects represented 55.68 per cent of the projects classified by the government, while about 42 per cent remained ongoing.
He put the combined contract value of the projects at N996.29 billion, adding that N695.20 billion had received approval through Notices of No Objection, while payment certificates worth N444.75 billion had been vetted by the ministry.
According to the commissioner, the projects span several sectors, including roads, bridges, healthcare, education, mass housing, rural development, urban infrastructure and traffic management.
He said the eight metropolitan local government areas accounted for 598 projects valued at N299.36 billion, while the 36 rural LGAs had 653 projects worth N287.90 billion.
Projects cutting across multiple LGAs were valued at N159.50 billion, while statewide and other interventions accounted for N249.54 billion.
Maaji highlighted several major projects, including the N113.19 billion mass housing scheme at Rijiyar Gwangwan in Dawakin Kudu, the N24.77 billion Katsina Road expansion covering parts of Fagge and Dala, and the N21.90 billion Modern Cities infrastructure programme.
Others include the N27.74 billion Madobi-Yako-Kafin Maiyaki-Kiru Road project and the N22 billion Rural Model City Project covering the state’s 36 rural LGAs.
However, the commissioner said the Dawakin Kudu Mass Housing Scheme and the Rural Model City Housing Project were among the high-value projects still undergoing relevant due process procedures.
On financial oversight, Maaji said the N444.75 billion payment certificates vetted so far represented 44.64 per cent of the total contract value and about 63.97 per cent of the amount approved through Notices of No Objection.
He said the ministry would continue monitoring project execution, resolving implementation challenges and strengthening its certification procedures to ensure that public funds deliver value to the people of Kano State.
