Official X Account Targeted in Cyberattack, Says Defence Headquarters
The Defence Headquarters has announced that its official X account was targeted in an attempted unauthorised takeover, prompting the military authorities to activate measures to secure the platform.
The disclosure was made on Saturday in a statement issued by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, who said the incident was being handled as a cybersecurity matter.
According to the Defence Headquarters, technical measures have been deployed to prevent further unauthorised access while efforts continue to regain full control of the account.
The military authorities also urged members of the public, media organisations and other stakeholders to exercise caution over content published from the account during the period.
The public was specifically advised to disregard any suspicious, misleading or unauthorised posts that may appear on the account until the security issue is fully resolved.
The Defence Headquarters said updates would be provided as efforts to restore and secure the account continue.
