Davido has thrown a fresh challenge at his colleagues in the Nigerian music industry, declaring that he is prepared to stake $1 million in cash on a hit-for-hit showdown against any artist who believes they can match his catalogue.

The Afrobeats star made the declaration during a livestream conversation with Davrel, where the conversation turned to the depth and consistency of his back catalogue.

Rather than simply asserting his dominance, Davido put a figure behind the claim, stating plainly that he was ready to bet a million dollars in cash against anyone in the industry, insisting that nobody has amassed more hit records than he has.

As of the time the challenge went public, no artist had formally taken him up on the offer.

The comment quickly spread online, in part because of the context surrounding it. An X user had recently argued that Davido would comfortably outperform veteran rapper Olamide in a straight hit-for-hit comparison, sparking a wider debate among fans over which of Davido’s contemporaries, if any, could realistically go toe-to-toe with him. That online back-and-forth appears to have fed directly into the livestream remarks, with many fans reading his comments as at least partly directed at the Olamide comparisons circulating at the time.

Davido has since addressed the speculation that he was calling out Olamide specifically. Pressed on the matter directly, he pushed back against the suggestion, playfully warning his interviewer to drop the line of questioning before clarifying his position more seriously.

According to the singer, his original comments were never about any single artist, but were simply an expression of confidence in the strength and breadth of his own catalogue, built over years of hits including “Fall,” “If,” “FIA,” “Aye” and “Unavailable,” among others.

The exchange comes at a moment when Davido, one of Afrobeats’ most commercially dominant acts alongside contemporaries like Wizkid, Burna Boy and Olamide, remains a fixture of conversation both on and off the music scene, with his family’s political profile in Osun State also keeping him in the news in recent days.
