The Ogun State Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA) has shut down Dahua Paper Company Limited, located in Owiwi Village near Obada-Oko, Abeokuta, over the operation of an illegal dumpsite, open waste burning, and severe environmental pollution.

The enforcement exercise was led by the Special Adviser to the Governor and Managing Director of OGWAMA, Faruk Akintunde, following months of intelligence gathering and monitoring of the factory’s operational practices.

According to state officials, the paper processing facility was caught disposing of industrial waste at an unauthorized dumpsite directly opposite its factory and setting the refuse on fire, violating the Ogun State Environmental and Public Health Law 2006 and the OGWAMA Law 2020.

Inspectors also discovered that heavy machinery at the illegal site was pushing accumulated waste into a nearby river, contaminating local water bodies and underground aquifers relied upon by neighboring rural communities.

In addition to sealing the industrial facility, state authorities confiscated two heavy-duty trucks caught dumping refuse on site and confirmed that the plant will remain closed while legal proceedings and regulatory penalties are pursued against the firm.
