Cameroonian security authorities have arrested a 23-year-old man in possession of a large cache of 7.62mm live ammunition concealed in containers in the Far North Region of Cameroon, close to Nigeria’s Gamboru axis in Borno State.

The suspect, identified as Moussa Ngoudja, a Cameroonian national born in Sueram, Fotokol, was intercepted at about 6:30 a.m. on August 9 during a targeted security operation conducted by members of the Vigilance Committee of Dougoumslio Slio Village.

According to security sources, Ngoudja was intercepted while riding a Boxer motorcycle and was found carrying three containers filled with several rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.

The discovery has heightened concerns over cross-border arms trafficking along the Cameroon-Nigeria frontier, particularly given the proximity of the route to Gamboru and other border communities prone to terrorist and insurgent activity within the Lake Chad Basin.

During preliminary questioning, the suspect reportedly claimed he collected the ammunition cache from Mada in Makary, Cameroon, and was transporting it to Mdego Village in Fotokol.

The suspect is currently held in custody at the Hilé Alifa Gendarmerie Brigade in Cameroon, where investigators are working to trace the origin of the armaments and identify potential cross-border criminal networks involved in the supply chain.
