UK Couple Held in Iran End Hunger Strikes, Family Says

A British couple detained in Iran on spying charges have ended their latest months-long hunger strikes, according to their family. Lindsay and Craig Foreman, both in their early 50s, had been protesting their treatment in prison.

The couple were arrested in January 2025 while travelling through central Iran on a round-the-world motorbike trip. They were each sentenced in February to 10 years in prison on espionage charges, which they deny.

An additional two years were later added to Craig Foreman’s term for speaking to the media.

They began their most recent hunger strikes in May, with Craig lasting 93 days and Lindsay 84 days. The pair had consistently complained about overcrowded and unsanitary conditions at Evin Prison.

In a statement, the family said the couple chose to end the protest after almost three months, turning the final five days into a “fast for good.” The action aimed to draw attention not only to their own detention but also to the rights of others imprisoned in Iran.

Lindsay Foreman’s son, Joe Bennett, said the immediate focus remains on the couple’s health, welfare, and securing their release after more than 18 months in detention. He noted that the recent closure of the UK embassy in Iran has made the campaign more challenging.
