Governor Abba Yusuf Approves New Salary Structure for Two Kano State Universities
Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf has approved the implementation of an upwardly revised salary structure for academic and non-academic personnel across two state-owned tertiary institutions: Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology (ADUST), Wudil, and Northwest University, Kano.
The decision follows recommendations submitted by a state executive council review committee tasked with harmonizing state tertiary salaries with national academic wage adjustments.
Under the newly approved policy, the adjusted package takes retroactive effect from January 2026, with actual disbursements beginning in September 2026.
To implement the salary adjustment, the state government has committed approximately N391.8 million monthly, representing an annual expenditure of N4.7 billion. A total of N1.57 billion has been earmarked within the 2026 supplementary budget to cover the immediate September–December payroll period, while accumulated back-pay arrears from January through August totaling N3.13 billion will be scheduled for settlement under the 2027 fiscal year budget.
State officials emphasized that adopting the improved pay structure is intended to boost workforce morale, attract quality academic talent, and guarantee uninterrupted academic calendars across Kano’s higher education system.
