FCCPC Resolves Over 15,000 Consumer Complaints in Lagos

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has resolved more than 15,000 consumer complaints in Lagos, urging Nigerians to seek redress whenever they receive defective goods or unsatisfactory services.

The commission disclosed that it had received about 17,000 complaints through its physical and online channels, with more than 15,000 cases successfully resolved.

The development was disclosed by the Lagos Zonal Coordinator of the FCCPC, Dr. Olubunmi Otti, during an engagement with journalists in Lagos.

Otti said the complaints covered various issues involving consumers who paid for goods and services but did not receive the quality or value expected.

She stressed that consumers have the right to demand value for their money and should not hesitate to report businesses that fail to meet their obligations.

According to her, consumers should first approach the business or service provider involved and attempt to resolve the matter directly.

However, where the response is unsatisfactory or the business fails to provide an appropriate solution, the consumer can escalate the complaint to the FCCPC for intervention.

She advised consumers to keep relevant documents and evidence, including receipts, proof of payment, transaction details and other information that could support their complaints.

The FCCPC said complaints can be submitted through its official channels, including its online platform and offices across the country.

The commission’s intervention is part of its mandate to protect consumers from unfair business practices and ensure that businesses operate in line with Nigeria’s consumer protection laws.

The FCCPC further encouraged Nigerians to become more aware of their consumer rights and to report violations rather than tolerate faulty products, poor services or other unfair practices.

The commission maintained that effective consumer complaints and timely regulatory intervention would help promote accountability, fair competition and better standards of goods and services in Nigeria.
