The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has denied reports circulating on social media claiming that it asked FIFA President Gianni Infantino to resign from his position.

The federation, in a statement published on its official X account on Saturday, described the reports as false and urged the public to disregard them.

The NFF said it had neither called for Infantino’s resignation nor made any request for him to step down as president of world football’s governing body.

The clarification comes amid growing scrutiny of Infantino’s leadership following controversy surrounding a proposal to commercialise certain rights linked to the FIFA World Cup, which was later abandoned.

While some European football associations, including Norway’s, have publicly called for Infantino to resign, other football bodies, including the Confederation of African Football (CAF), have continued to support his leadership.

The NFF’s clarification, however, drew mixed reactions from Nigerian football fans on social media, with several users criticising the federation’s position.

Some commenters accused the NFF of being supportive of Infantino, while others questioned why the federation felt the need to issue a statement denying a report they considered unlikely.

The federation maintained that the reports suggesting it had demanded Infantino’s resignation were untrue and reiterated its position that it had made no such call.
