Media personality, Frank Edoho has finally addressed one of the most persistent rumours in Nigerian television history, dismissing long standing claims that he was dropped from Who Wants To Be A Millionaire and revealing that the show’s end had nothing to do with his performance or conduct on air.

Edoho made the clarification during an appearance on The KK Show, where he opened up about his career, his years fronting the programme and the circumstances that eventually led to its suspension.

According to Edoho, the show came to an end after its sponsor of about a decade withdrew support following a significant financial penalty imposed by the Federal Government over a corporate matter unrelated to the show itself. He explained that the sponsor had backed the programme faithfully for years before the fine forced the company to step back entirely, leaving the production without the funding it needed to continue.

He declined to name the sponsor or go into further detail about the nature of the penalty, but said the financial hit was substantial enough to end the company’s involvement outright.

Edoho said that when the show eventually returned under a new sponsor, his absence from the relaunch was misread by a newspaper as evidence that he had been sacked, a conclusion he insists was drawn without any real basis.

He described the experience as painful, saying he felt let down after the years he had put into building the show alongside its production team.

The broadcaster hosted Who Wants To Be A Millionaire for 13 years, from 2004 until his resignation in September 2017, a run that turned him into one of the most recognisable faces on Nigerian television. Before his television career took off, Edoho spent four years working at Radio Nigeria, the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, where he said fame proved far harder to come by than it later did on screen, noting that a single month on television brought him more recognition than years on radio ever did.

He eventually returned to the programme in 2022 when it resumed after a five year hiatus with a revamped cash prize and new sponsors on board, a comeback that put to rest years of speculation that his relationship with the show had ended for good.
