Police Probe Conflicting Accounts Over Dispatch Rider’s Death in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command is investigating the death of a 32-year-old dispatch rider, Emmanuel Jegede, after conflicting accounts emerged about how he lost control of his motorcycle and died along Ikotun-Idimu Road in Alimosho.

The incident occurred around 10 a.m. on Wednesday after the rider completed a delivery.

Eyewitnesses claimed that suspected hoodlums pushed him off his bike while trying to force him to pay money for settling an earlier minor dispute with a tricycle rider.

According to witnesses, the rider had been involved in a small collision that was resolved by people in the area. Some of the youths then allegedly demanded money from him. When he said he had none, they later pushed him while he was riding, causing him to crash into the median.

Police said they received two different versions of the incident. One account suggested the rider lost control while trying to avoid a pedestrian, while another raised suspicion that some individuals fled the scene after the crash.

Detectives are working to obtain CCTV footage from the area to determine exactly what happened. The body of the rider was evacuated by officers from Idimu Police Division, and the investigation continues.
