Fresh Graduate, Fiancé Die in Anambra Hostel Collapse
A fresh graduate, Vivian Chinedum, and her fiancé, Ifeanyi Stanley, popularly known as Don Cash, have lost their lives in the collapse of a students’ hostel in Anambra State.
Their bodies were recovered from the rubble of the Elite 5-Star Hostel in Amaokpala, near the Federal Polytechnic, Oko.
The building, which had about 60 rooms, caved in on the night of July 26. Vivian, a baker and alumna of the polytechnic, was with Ifeanyi, an NYSC member and Moniepoint PoS machine distributor, when the structure collapsed.
Friends said Ifeanyi visited Vivian at the hostel around 10:45 p.m. that night. What was meant to be a normal visit turned into a tragedy that claimed both their lives. Those close to the couple described them as hardworking, ambitious, and focused on building a future together.
Tributes have poured in from friends mourning the loss. Many expressed deep sorrow that the young pair did not live to enjoy the fruits of their efforts. Some also pointed to poor building standards and materials as the cause of the disaster.
The incident has left family members, friends, and the Oko community in shock. Residents are calling for a thorough investigation into the collapse and justice for the victims.
