Tinubu Has Lost Control of Nigeria’s Finances Amid ₦12.62 Trillion Debt Scandal, Alleges Atiku
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration, asserting that the presidency has lost control of the nation’s financial management following revelations surrounding an unrecorded ₦12.62 trillion public debt burden.
In a formal statement released by his media team, Atiku expressed deep concern over national economic governance, arguing that secretive borrowing practices, unaccounted fiscal obligations, and mounting interest liabilities threaten the country’s long-term macroeconomic stability. He asserted that the unrecorded figures demonstrate systemic fiscal opacity and poor oversight within key public finance institutions.
Atiku called on the Federal Government to provide full transparency regarding the origin, terms, and utilization of the funds involved. He urged relevant regulatory bodies and the National Assembly to institute an immediate, independent audit of national debt registers to restore confidence among domestic investors, international lenders, and the Nigerian public.
