Troops Arrest Suspected ISWAP/JAS Operative in Borno Market Raid

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI, working alongside members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), have arrested a suspected member of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) and Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad (JAS) during a targeted operation in Damasak, Mobbar Local Government Area of Borno State.

Security sources disclosed that the arrest was made at about 9:50 a.m. on July 24 after troops of the 5 Brigade acted on credible intelligence and stormed the Damasak Onion Market, where the suspect was located.

A search conducted after the arrest led to the recovery of a vehicle and ₦35,300 believed to be connected to the suspect.

The suspect has been taken into military custody, while investigations are underway to determine his level of involvement in terrorist activities and any possible ties to ISWAP/JAS networks operating around the Lake Chad region.

Military sources said the operation forms part of ongoing intelligence-led efforts to disrupt insurgent logistics, identify collaborators, and dismantle support structures sustaining terrorist groups across Nigeria’s North-East.
