Tehran Summons Ukrainian Diplomat Following Caspian Sea Strike

Iran has summoned Ukraine’s senior diplomatic representative after accusing Kyiv’s military of launching a drone attack on an Iranian commercial vessel in the Caspian Sea, which killed one sailor and injured another.

During the meeting, Manouchehr Moradi, Assistant Foreign Minister and Director General for Eurasia at the Iranian Foreign Ministry, conveyed Tehran’s strong protest over what he described as a criminal act that violated international law and threatened maritime security.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that Ukrainian forces executed a series of long-range strikes targeting military supply networks in the Caspian Sea, including vessels allegedly utilized for transporting military cargo linked to Iran.

Addressing the incident, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held a discussion with European Union Foreign Policy Chief Kaja Kallas, calling on the United Nations Security Council and the international community to hold Kyiv accountable and warning that attacks on Iranian citizens and assets would draw a firm response.
