Delta Police Arrest 81 Suspects, Recover Drugs in Asaba Raids

Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested 81 suspected criminals during raids on known black spots in Asaba.

The operation took place on July 24 and formed part of efforts to break up criminal networks across the state.

The suspects, made up of 50 males and 31 females, were picked up for offences including the sale and possession of illicit drugs. Police also stopped an illegal checkpoint at the Asaba-Onitsha Head Bridge.

Items recovered during the raids included large quantities of Tramadol and substances suspected to be Indian hemp. Five vehicles were impounded for violations such as operating an unauthorised taxi park and assisting in drug distribution.

The command’s spokesman said the exercise was intelligence-driven and led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of operations. All suspects and exhibits are currently in custody as investigations continue.

Commissioner of Police Yemi Oyeniyi reaffirmed the command’s commitment to proactive policing. He warned those involved in criminal activities to stop or face the full weight of the law.
