Four Killed, Residences Destroyed as Armed Assailants Attack Anambra Settlement

At least four people believed to be local herders were killed during an early morning raid by heavily armed assailants on a residential settlement on the outskirts of Agu-Ifite Awka, Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Tochukwu Ikenga, stated that a police-led joint security team arrived at the scene following a distress report, discovering the tied-up bodies of four male victims who suffered fatal injuries, including machete cuts and blunt force trauma.

The attackers, who were armed with AK-47 rifles, pump-action shotguns, double-barrel guns, and machetes, also razed two residential huts, killed four cows, and slaughtered two additional cattle, taking away meat portions.

A survivor escaped unharmed and is currently assisting security forces with intelligence. The Anambra State Police Command condemned the violent attack, launched a full-scale investigation to track down the perpetrators, and urged local residents to remain calm while offering credible information to assist the ongoing probe.
