Former Governor of Kano State and vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has confirmed that he and the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, signed a written agreement stipulating that Obi will serve only a single four-year term if elected in 2027.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Kwankwaso disclosed that two separate documents were executed—one between the political party itself and another signed directly between Obi and Kwankwaso. The core provision of the pact is that power will return to Northern Nigeria after Obi completes a four-year tenure spanning from 2027 to 2031.

Kwankwaso expressed complete confidence in Obi’s commitment to honouring the agreement, emphasizing that both gentlemen agreed to put the pact on paper to solidify mutual trust.

Addressing his decision to accept the vice-presidential spot, Kwankwaso stated that current political dynamics supported a brief four-year Southern presidency before power rotates back North, describing it as a necessary consensus to unite the country.

While keeping long-term political strategy in view for 2031, Kwankwaso reaffirmed that the party remains strictly focused on executing its immediate 2027 campaign goals.
