PDP Denies Endorsing Tinubu, Says Viral Statement Fake
A viral statement claiming that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has endorsed President Bola Tinubu for re-election in the 2027 presidential election is false.
The statement, which has circulated widely on social media, purportedly claims that the opposition party adopted Tinubu’s second-term bid in the interest of national unity and urged its members to support the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
It also praises the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for his stewardship of the FCT, references the recent Area Council elections in Abuja, and commends the Tinubu administration’s economic reforms before calling on Nigerians to back the President’s re-election.
However, there has been no official announcement from the PDP at the national level endorsing President Tinubu or directing its members to support the APC ahead of the 2027 general election.
Neither the PDP National Working Committee nor the party’s National Publicity Secretary has issued any statement confirming such a decision.
The viral message also does not appear on the party’s official communication channels, raising further doubts about its authenticity.
As of the time of filing this report, the PDP remains Nigeria’s main opposition party and has not announced any change to its position regarding the 2027 presidential election.
Members of the public are advised to verify political statements through official party platforms before sharing or relying on them.
