Yobe Govt Approves N460.8m Empowerment Scheme for Female Entrepreneurs
The Yobe State Government has approved ₦460.83 million for the empowerment of female small business owners, including akara sellers, as part of efforts to strengthen small-scale enterprises and improve livelihoods across the state.
The approval was granted during the State Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Mai Mala Buni at the Government House in Damaturu on Thursday.
Addressing journalists after the meeting, the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Information and Culture, Abdullahi Bego, said the funds would be used to procure beans for distribution to women engaged in small businesses across the state.
He explained that beneficiaries would also receive cooking oil, smokeless stoves, cooking utensils and other kitchen items, which had already been purchased and stored by the Ministry of Wealth Creation, Empowerment and Employment Generation.
According to Bego, a total of 1,780 bags of 50-kilogram beans will be distributed under the programme.
He said the initiative is part of the Buni administration’s broader strategy to improve the economic wellbeing of women while supporting the growth of small-scale businesses.
The commissioner also announced that the Executive Council approved ₦364.48 million for the purchase of 1,000 Yamaha GX 390 grinding machines, which will be distributed to residents as part of the state’s empowerment programme.
According to him, the grinding machines will be procured through the Ministry of Wealth Creation, Empowerment and Employment Generation to expand economic opportunities for beneficiaries across Yobe State.
Bego further disclosed that the council approved projects and services valued at ₦73.32 billion covering key sectors of the state’s economy.
He said the approvals include ₦28.53 billion for the procurement of agricultural tools and equipment under the state’s 2026 mega agricultural empowerment programme, ₦23.97 billion for two major road projects, as well as funding for housing, markets and other infrastructure development initiatives.
