The President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, has said he possesses greater knowledge and understanding than many university graduates despite not receiving formal education.

MC Oluomo made the remarks during the golden jubilee celebration of Islamic singer, Hafsat Adegoke in Lagos, where he reflected on his journey from a bus conductor to the leadership of one of Nigeria’s largest transport unions.

He attributed his success to years of practical experience, hard work and perseverance, saying the lessons he learned while growing up shaped his leadership and career.

Recounting his early years, MC Oluomo said he began earning money as a teenager while working as a bus conductor and used part of his income to support his mother.

According to him, those experiences instilled a strong sense of responsibility and determination, which eventually contributed to his rise within the transport union.

He said he worked his way up through the ranks of the NURTW by learning and mastering the trade rather than relying on formal education.

Although he never attended school, MC Oluomo maintained that the knowledge and understanding he has acquired through life experience exceed those of many degree holders.

Despite his own educational background, he stressed the importance of formal education and said he ensured his children had access to quality schooling.

According to him, his children have gone on to excel professionally, with one becoming a doctor, another a lawyer and another an engineer, all currently living in the United States.

He said their achievements demonstrate his commitment to ensuring his children were not limited by the educational opportunities he lacked.
