Governor Umo Eno Approves ₦1.96bn to Cover Examination Fees for Akwa Ibom Students
The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has approved the release of one point nine six eight billion naira to cover the examination fees of basic and secondary school students across the state.
This massive financial intervention, driven under the administration’s signature ARISE Agenda, is aimed at expanding access to quality education and easing the financial burden on parents and guardians. To ensure the policy takes immediate effect, the governor directed the Ministry of Education and all relevant state agencies to fast-track the disbursement process so that no student is academically disadvantaged due to household financial constraints.
The bulk of the approved funding, totaling one point three six eight billion naira, has been allocated to cover the West African Senior School Certificate Examination fees alongside crucial logistical expenses such as National Identification Number registration, biometric capturing, science practical assessments, and continuous assessment monitoring. In addition to the senior secondary school support, the state government has earmarked fifty million naira for the National Business and Technical Examinations Board fees to support technical education. Another five hundred and fifty million naira has been dedicated to state-level transitions, including the Common Entrance and Placement Examination and the Basic Education Certificate Examination.
This educational milestone coincides with other sweeping youth empowerment initiatives in the state, including a recently approved one point three billion naira bursary allocation that increased individual student grants from twenty thousand naira to fifty thousand naira. By fully subsidizing these critical terminal exams, the Akwa Ibom State Government is actively safeguarding the academic progress of its young people and strengthening the local workforce.
Through these sustained investments, the administration continues to fulfill its covenant of free, compulsory, and highly accessible public education.
