Nollywood Actress Cries Out Over Cancer Battle, Says I Need to Live
Nollywood actress Cynthia Anijekwu has made an emotional appeal to Nigerians for financial support after revealing that she is battling cancer for the second time, with the disease now spreading to her bones. In a video circulating widely on social media on Tuesday, the actress broke down in tears as she detailed her health struggles and pleaded for urgent help.
Anijekwu disclosed that she was first diagnosed with cancer in 2023, undergoing surgery and chemotherapy in an effort to overcome the illness. She said doctors had initially managed to bring the condition under control, but the cancer later returned and has since progressed, spreading to her bones.
According to her, recent medical examinations confirmed the spread, significantly increasing both the cost and complexity of the treatment she now requires, including radiation therapy and another surgical procedure.
The actress revealed that she has been in and out of the hospital in recent months and now spends more than ₦600,000 every month on medical care, a financial burden she says has become too heavy for her and her family to bear alone. She further disclosed that the illness has affected both her breasts and caused noticeable swelling in one of her hands, describing the pain and uncertainty as overwhelming.
Despite the grim update, Anijekwu maintained a determined tone, insisting that she wants to live and survive the disease. She appealed directly to Nigerians at home and in the diaspora, stressing that no contribution, however small, would go unappreciated, and that even modest donations could add up to make a meaningful difference in her treatment. Before her health struggles became public knowledge, Anijekwu had built a career in Nollywood, appearing in several English and Igbo-language productions. Her story has since drawn an outpouring of sympathy online, with many Nigerians calling for support to help her continue the fight for her life.
