Mushin Incident Mechanical, Not IED Attack, Says Lagos Police
The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed claims that Monday’s incident in Mushin was caused by an Improvised Explosive Device.
The police said investigations established that the occurrence was a mechanical explosion and not an attack involving explosives or terrorism.
Commissioner of Police Tijani Fatai said forensic and technical examinations found no explosive materials, detonators, triggering devices, residues or other signs usually associated with a bomb blast.
According to the command, the incident occurred after a pressurised mechanical component outside the vehicle failed and released energy suddenly.
The force of the release shattered the glass panels on the front passenger side of the vehicle and caused minor injuries to the occupant.
Following the outcome of the investigation, the police officially classified the incident as a mechanical explosion.
The command assured residents that there was no indication of a terrorist attack or any criminal use of explosives in connection with the incident.
