DNA Test Confirms Body Linked to Missing #EndSARS Journalist Pelumi Onifade

A Lagos coroner’s inquest has recorded a major development in the case of Pelumi Onifade, the 20-year-old intern journalist arrested while covering the #EndSARS protests in Lagos in October 2020.

The inquest confirmed that DNA samples submitted by Onifade’s mother matched an unidentified body deposited at a mortuary in Ikorodu shortly after he went missing.

The confirmation comes after several years of delays in the case, including the loss of earlier DNA records during the unrest that followed the 2020 protests.

Onifade’s family, through its legal representative, is now demanding an immediate autopsy to establish the cause of his death.

The matter has been adjourned until July 7, 2026.
