First Lady Oluremi Tinubu Expands Food Banks to Fight Child Malnutrition

Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has announced plans to expand food banks and nutrition support programmes across the country. The move is part of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) aimed at reducing child malnutrition and hunger, especially among vulnerable families.

The expansion will see more food banks established in different states to provide nutritious meals and essential food items to children and mothers. Mrs Tinubu emphasised that tackling malnutrition is a top priority, as many children continue to suffer from poor nutrition due to economic hardship and food shortages.

Through the Renewed Hope Initiative, the First Lady’s office has been working on various projects to support women, children, and families. The new food bank programme is expected to reach more communities and help improve the health of young children by making sure they get regular access to balanced meals.

Officials say the initiative will work with partners to distribute food supplies and run nutrition education programmes. This is seen as a key step in addressing the growing challenge of hunger and undernourishment in Nigeria.

The announcement has been welcomed by many who believe stronger support systems are needed to protect children from the effects of malnutrition. Further details on the rollout of the expanded food banks are expected in the coming weeks.
