Several communities and stakeholders in Ebonyi State have thrown their weight behind former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Ifeanyichukwu Odii, endorsing him as their preferred choice for the state's 2027 governorship election.

The endorsement was announced during a stakeholders' meeting convened by community leaders, youth representatives, women groups, professionals, and other political stakeholders in Abakaliki, the state capital.

Speaking after the meeting, the group said its decision followed extensive consultations and an assessment of the political and economic challenges facing Ebonyi State.

According to the stakeholders, the state requires visionary leadership capable of driving development, creating economic opportunities, and improving the welfare of residents.

The group noted that issues such as unemployment, rising cost of living, and limited economic opportunities have continued to affect many residents, stressing that the next governor must possess the competence, integrity, and leadership qualities needed to address these challenges.

They described Odii as a leader with a proven record in business, philanthropy, and community development, adding that his contributions to education, youth empowerment, and social welfare across the state informed their endorsement.

"We believe Ebonyi needs a leader with the capacity, vision, and commitment to move the state forward. After careful consideration, we have unanimously endorsed Chief Ifeanyichukwu Odii as our preferred candidate for the 2027 governorship election," the stakeholders said in a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting.

The group also urged residents of the state to prioritize competence and performance when making political decisions ahead of future elections, rather than focusing solely on political affiliations or sectional interests.

While reaffirming their support for Odii, the stakeholders called on the Ebonyi State Government to intensify efforts toward tackling economic hardships and improving infrastructure, healthcare, education, and job creation across the state.

Odii, a businessman and philanthropist, was the PDP governorship candidate in the 2023 election and remains one of the opposition party's leading figures in Ebonyi politics.

Political analysts say the endorsement could strengthen his position within the PDP as preparations gradually begin for the 2027 governorship race in the state.
