Gunmen Kill Retired Ogun TV Staff, Security Guard in Abeokuta
Gunmen in the early hours of Sunday killed a retired staff of Ogun State Television, Mrs Kitan Oyesiku, widely known as “Aunty Kitan,” and her security guard at her home in Agodo community along the Abeokuta–Siun–Sagamu Expressway.
The Ogun State Police Command confirmed the incident, saying it would issue a detailed statement after further assessment of the killings.
The bodies of Oyesiku and the security guard were subsequently taken to the morgue at the State Hospital, Ijaiye, Abeokuta.
Circumstances surrounding the attack were still unclear as of press time, while no information had been released on the identity of the assailants or the possible motive behind the killings.
A source familiar with the incident said members of Oyesiku’s church were said to have discovered the bodies after becoming concerned about her absence from service.
The source said the church members visited her residence to check on her and found the security guard dead within the premises before discovering that Oyesiku had also been killed.
The visitors reportedly alerted residents of the community, drawing attention to the attack.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed the incident when contacted but did not provide further details.
Oyesiku was a familiar figure in Ogun media circles, having worked with the state-owned television station before retiring from service.
Her death has thrown former colleagues, friends and residents of the state into mourning, as calls grow for the perpetrators to be identified and brought to justice.
